Council to approve new mandatory mask by-law

PARRY SOUND, ON-The Parry Sound council has released the details surrounding the new mandatory mask by-law.

Set to come into effect on July 17th, face-covering will have to be worn in all indoor public spaces within the Town of Parry Sound.

The enforcement of this new by-law takes a more educational approach by posting signage and having materials available for people to learn about why wearing masks are so important.

It will also be up to businesses to educate and inform their staff about how to deal with people who may not be compliant with these new orders as they are not required to enforce mandatory masks.

Some individuals are exempt from these new rules, including children under the age of five, those who are unable to wear a face-covering as a result of a medical condition or disability.

It also impacts people who are unable to remove a face covering without assistance or for whom a face covering would inhibit their ability to breathe, people who are receiving services in which their face needs to be uncovered like seeing a dentist, people appearing in court, and emergency service workers.

Part of the by-law also states if a person claims to be exempt from the mask order, they do not have to identify why or provide any proof.

This by-law only affects indoor public spaces and not open areas like parks, trails or patios and does not come into effect when there is a physical barrier between two people like having plexiglass between an employee and a customer.

The current end date of this bylaw has been set for October 13th and if you have any questions, visit the health unit site here.
