Almaguin OPP Tally 71 Provincial Offences Over Canada Road Safety Week

Almaguin Highlands OPP had a busy Victoria Day long weekend.

The detachment took part in Canada Road Safety Week this past week, from May 12-18th.

During that time, officers were patrolling local towns, villages and roadways looking out for offences and issued a total of 71 Provincial Offence Notices.

Those included 57 speeding charges, four due to failure of having insurance cars, three validation tag offences and three trespassing offences.

Additionally, one driver was charged with failing to move over for an emergency vehicle, another was charged for not wearing their seatbelt, and a third was charged under the Off-Road Vehicle Act for not wearing a helmet.

Meanwhile, officers say they arrested one driver for failure or refusal to comply with demand – after a complaint was reported against them.

During the week, officers conducted several RIDE programs and inspected 285 drivers.

The long weekend also coincided with Canada Safe Boating Week, an initiative designed to educate boaters and save lives.

The goal is to eliminate waterway fatalities, aggressive driving and to ensure lifejacket or personal floatation devices are readily available.

One vessel operator was charged over the weekend for failing to have a lifejacket or PDF.

OPP is thanking those who drove responsibly over the long weekend.
