Health Care Worker At West Parry Sound Health Centre Tests Positive For COVID-19

A health care worker with the West Parry Sound Health Centre is at home in self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit said in a press release Thursday that it has been collaborating with the health centre on contact tracing activities.

To protect patient confidentiality, additional information about the health care worker will not be made available.

People in close contact with the person in question have been identified and followed up with.

There are a number of precautions in place at the health centre to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including a universal masking program, 24/7 entry screening, strict visitor limitations, and other departmental process changes all aimed at keeping the hospital community safe from infection.

The Health Unit adds if you think you may have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who does – you should self-isolate and then use Ontario’s on-line Self-Assessment Tool to determine if you need to seek further care.

If additional care is recommended, you’re encouraged to call your primary care provider or the health unit at 1-800-563-2808.

Individuals meeting testing criteria may also call the West Parry Sound COVID-19 Assessment Centre at 705-746-4540 ext. 5030 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days per week.

The COVID-19 Assessment Centre is located in the Parry Sound Mall.
