PARRY SOUND, ON-The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has confirmed the first COVID-19 related death in the region.
The individual was a woman in her 50’s who passed away in the last 24 hours. The health unit is working with the hospitals involved and community stakeholders on tracing the activities of the individual to try and connect anyone who came in contact.
The health unit said that out of respect for the family, they would not be releasing any information about how she contracted the virus, her name or where she was from.
Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical officer of health with the unit said they offer their condolences to the individual’s family and friends. “This loss stresses the seriousness of the situation we are facing. We owe it to our loves ones, our friends, neighbours and the community as a whole to stay home as much as possible, physical distance when you need to go out for essentials, wear a facial covering when physical distancing is hard or unable to maintain while in public and follow public health measures.”
