OPP Festive R.I.D.E. campaign begins

It’s that time of year again for Christmas parties and our local police want to ensure everyone’s safety.  The West Parry Sound OPP is conducting its annual Festive R.I.D.E. campaign starting today and running until January 2nd.  Officers are reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving as immediate roadside driver’s licence suspension will be issued by the OPP to driver’s who register a Blood Alcohol Concentration in the “Warn Range” of 0.05  to 0.08 and offenders will not be allowed to drive from that point on for a minimum of three days.  The Festive R.I.D.E roadside checkpoints have become a familiar part of the holiday season and an effective countermeasure to the road safety issue of impaired driving.  Staff/Sgt and Detachment Commander Ron Campbell says think of others this time of year, make a plan, have a designated driver, spend the night or take a taxi.  Campbell asks everyone to not drink and drive and make this festive season one to remember for all the right reasons and not a tragic one.
