PARRY SOUND, ON – Anyone needing to get a CT scan won’t have to travel too far anymore.
The scanner officially arrived at the West Parry Sound Health Centre yesterday. The hospital said there are only four other machines like it and they are all in B.C.
The $1.4 million piece of equipment was able to be purchased thanks to a donation from families out of Pointe au Baril, Lake Joe, Dunchurch and Horseshoe Lake.
The West Parry Sound Health Centre called the scanner “revolutionary” and said there are other donors to thank as well.
According to the organization, it wouldn’t have a new camera for the operating room, new smart IV pumps or a specialized table for the cardiac centre without people contributing to the holiday fundraising campaign.
The hospital created a goal on October 1st to raise $10 million. It has almost achieved half its goal as donors have supported the cause to the tune of $4 million.
While officials with the hospital say they really appreciate the CT scanner, attention will now shift to raising another $1.6 million to complete its imaging systems.
The general and portable X-ray machines will reach the end-of-life date at the end of next year, which means they won’t be serviced anymore and new machines are needed.
