Majority of Parry Sound schools closed as teachers strike

PARRY SOUND, ON – With no deal reached between the Ontario Secondary School Teacher’s Federation and the provincial government, there are a lot of students off school today.

In Parry Sound, it is affecting pretty much all schools.

Both elementary and high schools in the Near North District School Board are closed and the same goes for all students attending The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic School Board.

According to the Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic District School Board’s website, all classes will go on as normal for its facilities.

Talks between the union representing the teachers and the province continue but clearly weren’t close enough to avoid the strike. It is just a one-day strike and the union said everything will go back to normal Thursday.

Teachers are protesting cuts made by the Ford government.
