It’s Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day

Today is the first ever Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.  Co-founder of Pancreatic Cancer Canada, Laurie Ellies says not-for-profit groups around the world came together because not enough people know about the disease.

Ellies says a new treatment drug has just been launched, which is what sparked the need for an awareness day.

According to Pancreatic Cancer Canada, 80 per cent of patients have a life expectancy of four to six months.  Ellies says the group wants to raise more awareness to show how under-funded and under-recognized this disease is.  She says pancreatic cancer receives 2 per cent of overall cancer research funding.
