Whitestone appoints new mayor

WHITESTONE, ON – Councillor George Comrie will serve as Whitestone mayor for the remainder of the term.

The position was left vacant by the untimely death of former mayor Chris Armstrong last August.

According to a release from the municipality, council asked for public opinion on how to fill the position. Administration received “overwhelming” feedback that someone currently on council should be appointed.

Comrie said he appreciated the confidence council has in him to take on the role.

“I have enjoyed very much being a part of council the last five years, ” Comrie said in the release. “I look forward to continuing to advance its agenda in a leadership role.”

Coun Joe Lamb will remain deputy mayor, but a new councillor is needed to fill the vacancy now left by Comrie.

According to the release, council now has 60 days to decide how to replace Comrie.
