Police want drivers, boaters and ATVers to be safe this long weekend

Local police are hoping for a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend.  The West Parry Sound OPP will be visible to motorists and boaters in their travels this Thanksgiving Day long weekend as part of the ongoing effort to promote public safety and security throughout Ontario.  While on the road, officers say drivers need to drive in a sober state, ensure seat belts are worn properly at all times while in motion, obey the posted speed limits, follow at a safe distance, and use only a hands-free communication device while behind the wheel.  While on the waterways smart boating includes everyone wearing an approved PFD and operators must carry a Pleasure Craft Operator Card, operate vessels in a sober state, and respect rules and regulations that promote safe boating.  ATV riders must ride in a sober state, wear approved helmets, and carry their drivers licence, ownership and proof of insurance while on the trails.  West Parry Sound OPP Staff Sergeant Ron Campbell says drivers need to exercise patience, slow down and enjoy the drive.
