Company demonstrates hovercrafts to be built in Parry Sound

People got a firsthand look at some new machines that are slated to be built in the district.

A hovercraft demonstration took place at Hamer Bay Marine in MacTier yesterday.

The purpose of the demonstration was to test the equipment manufactured by SHERP ATV’s and Interconn Developments hovercrafts in winter conditions.

The Town of Parry Sound supported this demonstration because both companies are planning to manufacture this equipment in the district as early as spring of next year.

“The Ministry of Defence has expressed interest specifically in hovercraft for border guard operations,” said Vladimir Shehovtsov, Economic Development Officer for the town of Parry Sound.

The details of where exactly the machines will be built are still being worked out but Shehovtsov expressed that the plant could be based near or around the airport area.

Shehovtsov also mentioned that SHERP has been named the most powerful ATV in the world and that they intend to create approximately 20 full-time jobs in the spring. Interconn Developments is said to create between five and seven full-time jobs.
