Sexual exploitation charge against swim coach withdrawn

Sexual exploitation charges against a Barrie swim coach have been withdrawn.

Zachary Hurd was facing one count in connection with an incident in Magnetawan Township.

A publication ban is in effect to protect the victim’s identity. The charge was withdrawn in Parry Sound court on Thursday. In exchange for the withdrawal, Hurd accepted a sex offence peace bond.

Hurd is to abide by the following conditions for 12 months starting yesterday:

  • Keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
  • Not to communicate directly or indirectly with the victim
  • Not to engage in employment or volunteer work with males under the age of 16-years.
  • Not to be alone in the presence of a male under 16 years unless he is in the direct presence by a responsible adult.

Hurd faces additional sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching charges pending in Collingwood. His court date is scheduled for March 29, 2019.
