Parry Sound Circle K denies man’s claim he was refused service for wearing poppy

Police are investigating a malicious post made on Facebook aimed at a Parry Sound business.

Robb White posted today that the worker at Circle K on Bowes St. denied him service Thursday night because he was wearing a poppy. White claims that he told the worker that “this is Canada and if he doesn’t like it, get the (expletive) out.” The post specifically mentioned the worker’s race and has since been deleted.

Store representative, Harpreet Kaur, said she was unaware that the post had been made until MyParrySoundNow.com reached out to Circle K for comment. Kaur denies that the incident ever happened.

Kaur said that she has often received derogatory comments, possibly racially motivated, from some adults and some high school students since arriving in Parry Sound in March. She added that those people have made her feel unwelcome.

Kaur said she called the OPP about the post. She said an officer came into the store and could not confirm if the man had even been in the store after examining security footage. She said the OPP told her she would get an update on Monday.

MyParrySoundNow.com has reached out to Robb White for comment. He has yet to respond.
