Parry Sound students hold unofficial vote for municipal election

Students across Parry Sound are getting a chance to weigh in on the municipal election.

Non-profit organization CIVIX connected with schools across the province to allow students to try out voting a bit early. Teachers were provided with free learning materials to educate the kids on the election process and help them decide who to vote for. CIVIX officials say over 150,000 students across the province cast their ballots.

Schools involved in Parry Sound included St. Peter the Apostle and Nobel. You can find a list of all student-elected winning candidates below (Whitestone, Seguin, McKellar and Archipelago were not included in the student vote results):

Mayor – Jamie McGarvey, 20 votes
Councillor – George Ashford, 41 votes
Councillor – Vanessa Backman, 28 votes
Councillor – Michael Barker, 21 votes
Councillor – Jamie Chapman, 22 votes
Councillor – Bonnie Keith, 21 votes
Councillor – Lee-Ann Turner, 21 votes

McDougall:

Councillor – Joel Constable, 21 votes
Councillor – Kim Dixon, 8 votes
Councillor – Lewis Malott, 5 votes
Councillor – Joe Ryman, 4 votes
