Crossing moose leads to four crashes on Highway 69 in Parry Sound

How would you react if an animal walked out in front of your vehicle?

The OPP is asking drivers to consider this scenario after a crossing moose led to four crashes in Archipelago Township Saturday night. The moose was first hit by a vehicle that was attempting to pass a transport truck on Highway 69. The moose body was then hit by three more vehicles. Three people were  taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say being mentally prepared by thinking about how you’d react to this situation can help prevent a crash. Drivers need to be extra watchful for animals like moose and deer around dusk and dawn, by watching ditches and eye reflections on the road. If you hit a large animal pull over, put on your hazards and light up the body with your headlights so other vehicles can easily spot it. Police say you should never approach an injured animal as they can be especially dangerous.
