3rd Parry Sound Scouts looking for new kids to revive program this fall

Parry Sound scouting is returning to the district in a big way.

After several years of hiatus, the 3rd Parry Sound Scouts are open for registration for all levels of the program. Organizer Lloyd George says, in his goal to bring the program back to the area, he was working to recruit leaders earlier this year.

“It was going strong in Parry Sound for a while, but due to circumstances it just had to close,” says George. “I’ve been involved in Scouting for 22 years. Moving up to Parry Sound I went into culture shock when I found there was no scouting, so I decided I had to open it up.”

George says the recruitment campaigns were very successful and he’s hoping to register up to 40 kids in the various Scouting programs.

The program, says George, is a bit different from what parents may have experienced in the past.

“Now it’s all youth-led. We want the kids to know that the program is theirs, now we want the kids to tell us what it is they want to do.”

He says they’ll encourage the kids to get outside as much as possible and there will be volunteer Scouters there to help guide them.

If you’re interested in getting your child registered for any of the scouting programs this fall you can attend the meeting at the Mary Street Centre next Tuesday. It runs from 7:00pm to 8:30. If you have questions ahead of time you can call George at 905-960-4400 or email [email protected].
