Proposed Acorn Ridge Development sees some opposition during public meeting in Parry Sound

A proposal to build a group of apartment buildings in Parry Sound is getting some opposition.

The owners of a property off of Lousia Street are requesting a rezoning of the lands to allow for five buildings totaling 160 apartment units. The lands were previously zoned to allow a retirement residence with up to 74 units.

During a public meeting on September 4th, some Parry Sound residents spoke out with concerns about increased traffic due to the number of units that would be available. Concerns were also raised about the impacts on property values of the handful of homes in the area.

The property owner commissioned a traffic study that suggests the local roadway shouldn’t see any added congestion.

Council will review the proposal and public comments before making a final decision on the rezoning application.
