Ridge Classic Golf Tournament supports after-hours mental health care

The Ridge Classic Golf Tournament at The Ridge on Manitou raised $31,000 dollars to keep an after-hours-walk-in Mental Health Clinic running in Parry Sound.

This is the second year that the proceeds supported the clinic.  Previously the money raised supported the West Parry Sound Health Centre.

Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Parry Sound-Muskoka, Dianne Brown De-Marco says “Mental health became the recipient of the funding rather than the hospital because of the growing awareness within the community and how mental health had touched the organizers in a significant way.”

According to the CMHA, the clinic provides an hour-long solution-focused counselling or therapy session for those that may not be available during regular office hours. DeMarco says sometimes talking through a difficult situation in a confidential setting with a trained counsellor can help a person get beyond the crisis and prevent future unfortunate outcomes. The after-hours walk-in clinic runs Wednesdays from 4 to 8 pm at 26 James Street.
