Crews still working on fire near Ardbeg

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews are still fighting a brush fire near Ardbeg.

Fire Information Officer for the North East Region Isabelle Chenard says the fire is listed as “not yet under control” and is five hectares in size. She says there’s no estimate on when it will be put out:

It broke out Friday night at the Bunny Trail along the rail line. The Whitestone Fire Department was originally called in but turned the fire over to the MNRF because of its size. Two fire ranger crews are assigned to the blaze and they’re working to get a hose line established around the perimeter. Chenard says it’s best if people let them do their work:

Chenard says there is no immediate threat of evacuation at this time. She added people may still be seeing smoke, but that any new smoke should be reported by calling 911. Keep in mind the fire danger rating in the Parry Sound District is sitting at extreme, and a complete fire ban is in effect. You can follow the progress of the Ardbeg fire at this website.
