Canadian Blood Services issues an urgent need for donors

There is an urgent need for blood donations. Canadian Blood Services Territory Manager for Barrie, York Region, Simcoe, Muskoka, Elaine St. Pierre, says there is a greater need for donors in the summer, but fewer people tend to donate:

She adds that it can take 50 people to save a car accident victim’s life. St. Pierre says CBS is most in need of O blood types, 40% of Canadians are O positive, while O negative is the universal blood type:

St. Pierre says half of the population is not eligible to give blood. She says tests will be done prior to a donation:

There will be two blood donor clinics at The Knights of Columbus Hall at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 6th and on July 27th from 2 to 7 pm. St. Pierre says the July 6th clinic is almost booked, but only a third of the spots have been booked for the 27th. For more information on giving blood or to book an appointment, visit The Canadian Blood Services website.
