There is an urgent need for blood donations. Canadian Blood Services Territory Manager for Barrie, York Region, Simcoe, Muskoka, Elaine St. Pierre, says there is a greater need for donors in the summer, but fewer people tend to donate:
She adds that it can take 50 people to save a car accident victim’s life. St. Pierre says CBS is most in need of O blood types, 40% of Canadians are O positive, while O negative is the universal blood type:
St. Pierre says half of the population is not eligible to give blood. She says tests will be done prior to a donation:
There will be two blood donor clinics at The Knights of Columbus Hall at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 6th and on July 27th from 2 to 7 pm. St. Pierre says the July 6th clinic is almost booked, but only a third of the spots have been booked for the 27th.
