Mayor McGarvey addresses housing, employment and funding; seeks re-election

Mayor Jamie McGarvey is seeking re-election for a third term. McGarvey says the lack of affordable housing is one of the biggest issues in Parry Sound. He says, there were about 440 applications for people who cannot afford rent.

McGarvey adds that because of the lack of affordable housing: construction, parks, and recreation employers are unable to fill positions.

McGarvey says as a municipal representative he needs to advocate for adequate funding from the province.

He adds, Parry Sound has seen more housing starts, new businesses, good co-operation between municipalities, and this is a momentum that needs to continue. Council will be endorsing McGarvey to run for president of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. He says if successful that the eyes of the province will be on Parry Sound and area. He has served as mayor for 8 years. The municipal election is on October 22nd.
