Parry Sound Town Council takes action against Asian carp migration into the Great Lakes

An open letter in the Chicago Sun-Times is a call to action in Parry Sound.

The letter warns of the migration of Asian carp into the Great Lakes destroying native wildlife and fish populations as already seen in the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers

Written on behalf of the Great Lakes mayors, it urges immediate federal funding for a barrier designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that will prevent the fish from entering Lake Michigan.

Parry Sound Town Council Tuesday night approved a resolution in support of Mayor Jamie McGarvey adding his name to the letter which includes Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Toronto Mayor John Tory.

A copy of the resolution is being sent to the federal Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna and Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement among others.
