OPP release totals from Labour Day campaign

Distracted driving and fatal collisions are at the top of the OPP’s concern after last Labour Day weekend.

The OPP is reporting that 92 people have died on roads in Ontario between July and August. That’s the highest number of deaths in this period of time since 2010.

Two fatalities took place on roads across the province over the long weekend, one of which closed Highway 69 for hours.

Distracted driving was also an issue for police. The OPP handed out 444 distracted driving charges province-wide. This is in contrast to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP’s report of zero distracted driving charges over Labour Day.

The OPP says 208 people have died on Ontario roads in 2017.
