The Independence Centre and Network is turning 40-years-old

A local organization that helps seniors and those with physical disabilities live independently is turning 40. The Independence Centre and Network provides support and rehabilitation with programs that focus on mobility, post-stroke transitioning, getting around the community and life skills. It also offers different housing options that provide 24-hour support.

ICAN is delivered through the North East Local Health Integration Network, which says it gives front-line care to help Northerners live healthy, productive and independent lives.

CEO Marie Leon says it was originally formed by a small group of parents who wanted to make sure family members with physical disabilities could live independently. She says over the last four decades, the organization has grown into a major service provider and helps hundreds of clients.

More details about ICAN and the programs is offers are available on its website.
