Canadian Blood Services needs to fill 25,000 appointments in Canada before Labour Day

Canadian Blood Services has less than two weeks to fill 25,000 appointments across the country. CBS is reporting a donor shortage, and says it needs to make its goal by Labour Day.

Director of Donor Relations, Michael Betel, says there is a drop in blood donations during the summer because of holidays, travel, and a change in daily routine. He says to make sure hospitals have enough blood to meet patient needs, new and returning donors are needed right away.

The closest clinic to Parry Sound before Labour Day is in Huntsville on Monday, and there are still 40 open appointments. It runs from 2:00pm to 7:00pm at the Faith Baptist Church.

CBS Territory Manager Elaine St. Pierre says once blood is collected from the clinic, it goes straight to where it’s needed.

If you aren’t able to make the clinic in Huntsville there is a blood drive in Parry Sound on September 29th.  Go to the Canadian Blood Services website to book an appointment.
