Parry Sound to discuss public safety with health unit

The Town of Parry Sound is taking steps to address needles being found in public places.

This comes after a deputation last night from a concerned resident.

Thomas Buttineau spoke to a filled council chamber to ask the town to address the safety issues that come along with individuals using drugs in public locations, including Waubuno Beach.

According to the OPP, there have been a few instances this year where needles have been found in public places in Parry Sound.

The town passed a direction to discuss this topic with the North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit at a later date.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has a needle exchange program called Northern Points. Its office is located in the Parry Sound Mall.

If you come into contact with needles or other sharps, the NBPSDHU has advice on what to do.
