Parry Sound Blood Drive goes above and beyond expectations

Canadian Blood Services wants to thank the people of Parry Sound after last week’s blood drive.

Elaine St-Pierre, Territory Manager for Canadian Blood Services says the Parry Sound drive was the only one in the region to bring in more donations than the target.

Canadian Blood Services were hoping to get 120 units of blood through their Parry Sound drive.

The drive at St. Peter Knights of Columbus Hall managed to bring in 131.

To put it in perspective, St. Pierre says cardiovascular surgery requires around five units of blood. Those extra donations from the Parry Sound drive could potentially save two lives.

Despite the numbers being up in Parry Sound, it was a different story almost everywhere else.

According to CBS, the numbers in nearby blood drives were down across the board.

St. Pierre says this could be because of people’s summer schedules making it difficult for them to make it out to a blood drive

CBS will hold their next blood drive in Parry Sound at the end of September.
