Health Unit’s needle exchange program looking for more community partners

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says it’s trying to grow their needle exchange program.
In a statement the NBPSDHU said it wanted the public to know that the program is still running and that they are looking for more partners to expand operations.

Executive Director of the health unit Cathy Menzies-Boule says needle exchange programs help the community by offering a safe place for clients, and preventing the transmission of disease. She also says that the exchanges help keep discarded needles off the street.

The program follows a harm reduction model, which recognizes there will always be people that use drugs. The goal of this model is to limit the harm to others and themselves that could come from using drugs.

The Parry Sound location for the Northern Point Exchange Services is on Joseph Street.

These services are mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
