Chamber of Commerce looking into the impact of a $15 minimum wage

The Parry Sound Chamber of Commerce is looking at consequences a $15 minimum wage will have for the economy.

Alongside the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Keep Ontario Working coalition, the chamber is organizing an independent economic study of what the changes to the minimum wage might have.

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has spoken out several times against the minimum wage hike proposed by the provincial government. The chamber says small business owners will not be able to adapt to a 32 per cent wage increase in only 18 months.

Currently the minimum wage is $11.40. The proposed changes would have the minimum wage increase to $14 in 2018 and to $15 in 2019.

The results of the study will be released in August.
