OPP investigating stolen boat in Machar Township

Police are investigating a theft in Machar Township.

The OPP say that a boat was stolen from a home on Boundary Road. Police say the boat was docked at the back of the property on Deer Lake, and was securely fastened to an anchor on land.

The boat is a 14.5 foot Princecraft with a 15 Horsepower Mercury outboard engine.

The thieves also took two life jackets, two wooden paddles, a safety kit and four grey marine seats. Police believe the theft happened between June 18 and 21st.

Constable Louise Maki says there are steps you can take to keep your home or cottage from being targeted for theft, like security lights that turn on when they detect motion.

She says that the best thing to do if you’re spending an extended period time away from your property is to make it look lived in. Maki suggests putting timers on lights in different rooms, have someone check your property, mow your lawn and water your plants.

Anyone with information about the crime is being asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
