Man fined $1000 for illegal fishing practices

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is fining a man $1000 for illegal fishing practices.
The man, from Dwight, was caught in Algonquin Park using live baitfish as bait in a specially protected trout lake.
This happened in early March.
The MNRF wants to remind the public that trout lakes are sensitive, and invasive species are a big threat to their sustainability. That’s why using baitfish was not allowed on this particular lake.

To report a natural resource violation, call the MNRF TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
