Tony Clement confident in Andrew Scheer as new Conservative leader

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement is happy with the Conservative Party’s new leader.

Former Speaker of the House Andrew Scheer wasn’t Clement’s first choice of leader, but he says he’s happy with him at the helm.

Clement went into last weekend supporting Maxime Bernier, who was the favourite to win the leadership. Despite starting with a commanding lead, Bernier lost on the final of 13 ballots to Scheer.

Clement says the race was tougher for Bernier after each round of voting.

Clement added that now that the Conservatives have a leader, they can unite and start to show Canadians outside of the party what they can do better than the Justin Trudeau government.
