Chamber asks province for due diligence with proposed labour reform

The Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce is warning the province to be careful with their proposed labour reforms.
The changes put forward by the province would affect the Ontario Labour Relations Act and the Employment Standards Act, and include a new minimum wage of $15.
In a statement the Chamber said the changes to the LRA and ESA could discourage investment, eliminate jobs and diminish economic opportunities in the province.
Chamber President Gail Burrows says the Chamber isn’t against workers earning more money, but stressed that these changes could damage small businesses.
She added that the Chamber would like to see thresholds in place to make sure the reforms wouldn’t hurt local businesses and the economy.
