Eastern Georgian Bay Stewardship Council looks to restore Shebeshekong river

The Eastern Georgian Bay Stewardship Council wants to restore fish populations in the Shebeshekong river. That’s why they were in Carling Township’s council meeting on Monday asking for a letter of support for their project.

The EGBSC is looking to start restoration work to the river to help walleye and sucker fish reach additional spawning areas in the Lockett Lake rapids.

Julia Sutton from the EGBSC says the population of fish in the lake has shrunk over the years, but says they don’t have the exact numbers.
They also asked Carling Council for $500 over three years for long-term monitoring of the system.
