CAS and CUPE make progress in talks

There might be light at the end of the tunnel.
CUPE reps and the Children’s Aid Society of Parry Sound and Nipissing have reopened talks to end a lockout that began in late December.
Negotiations between CAS and its workers were held up primarily by workload management and sick leave policies.
There have been a number of meetings between the two groups, but until now they have ended in mutual disappointment.
After meeting with each other this week, both sides are sounding optimistic about this lockout coming to a close.
CUPE says they have given CAS all the tools they need to end this lockout. Executive Director Gisele Hebert says that she hopes the momentum established at the talks can help bring a speedy resolution to the lockout.
