OPP is reminding drivers to stay off of closed highways this winter

With winter weather affecting driving conditions, there is a chance roads could be closed in Parry Sound this winter.
West Parry Sound OPP wants drivers to be aware, you can be charged for using a highway that has been designated closed by officials.
Staff Sergeant Mike Gordon says driving on a closed highway is an unnecessary risk to everyone in the vehicle and emergency crews that are working in that area.
Vehicles that become stuck and are abandoned also make it difficult for crews to clear the roads as well.
The fine for using a closed highway is $110 and comes with three demerit points on your driving record.
Officials say, those who get into collisions on closed highways can also have difficulty getting insurance coverage as well.
If you are looking for information on highway conditions police want to remind you not to call 9-1-1, however you can call 5-1-1 or listen to Moose FM.
