Ice breaking operations by the Canadian Coast Guard have begun in Georgian Bay.
On December 31st, the coast guard began these operations to help with commercial shipping routes headed to Midland.
Coast guard ship Samuel Risley has also recently arrived at its home port in Parry Sound to assist in these operations.
Any recreational ice users are asked to be cautious of these ice breaking operations as they continue over the winter.
The OPP is asking anyone who may head out on the ice to plan accordingly and be prepared.
Officials say fresh snowfall can sometimes make it hard to tell where ice breaking has occurred along the bay.
