Police warning residents about fraud e-mails and texts

The West Parry Sound OPP says to never provide information unless you’re sure of the person or business you’re dealing with.
Officials say fraudulent e-mails and texts are being sent by scammers. In these messages, the person is demanding payment for fines and traffic violations. They proceed to say there is an unpaid provincial fine which needs to be paid.
They say in the message there is a hyperlink usually. They say not to click on it. Police believe if you do click on it, malware is loaded onto your device which will cause damage, and allow access to your device’s protected information.
They say this is a new trend, and they urge you to delete the email or text if you receive one.
