Town of Parry Sound looking to apply for funding to upgrade the Fitness Trail

The Fitness Trail could be getting some upgrades.  Town of Parry Sound CAO Rob Mens informed council at last night’s meeting that an application to the Ontario 150 Community Investment Program through the Ontario Trillium Foundation needs to be submitted by September 14th.

Staff originally wanted to apply for upgrades to the old Fire Station, but found out that the project doesn’t meet the criteria, so Mens brought up the Fitness Trail as a project for council to consider.  He says staff will be getting prices on pink crushed brick for the entire length of the trail and how much it would cost to pave the entire route for a comparison.  They will also be getting quotes on new fitness equipment for the trail and how much it would cost to remove invasive species along the trail and replace them with native plants and shrubs.

Councillor Paul Borneman suggested for staff to check and see if the roof and siding of the Stockey Centre would be an eligible project and a decision will be made at the next council meeting.
