An outbreak of Whooping Cough is no longer a threat to the region

The Whooping Cough outbreak in West Nipissing is over.  The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says the outbreak that was declared on June 20th in the Municipality of West Nipissing, is now over.  There were 17 cases confirmed with whooping cough disease in people ranging in age from eight to 46-years-old with none of the cases being hospitalized.  Although the outbreak is over the Health Unit will continue its usual monitoring of whooping cough disease across the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts.  The health unit says the best way to protect against whooping cough is by getting immunized and it’s offered free in Ontario.  For questions regarding the whooping cough vaccine, please call the Health Unit at 705-474-1400 extension 2252, or 1-800-563-2808.
