A new four-lane section of Highway 69 is close to being open. An 11-kilometre stretch from north of Highway 64 to north of Highway 607 near the Municipality of French River will soon be fully open to traffic after the province invested over $61 million for the project. Work on the latest expansion involved the excavation, embankment, and installation of nearly 3.7 million cubic metres of rock, pavement, and other materials as well as the construction of one new bridge underpass at Highway 64 as part of a new interchange. Earlier this year, the province awarded a $173 million contract to continue work to widen an additional 14 kilometres of Highway 69 from just north of Highway 607 to just north of Highway 522 to four lanes.
