After three weeks of dry conditions, the fire ban has been lifted in West Parry Sound. With the rain received across the region on Saturday, West Parry Sound Fire Coordinator Chief Brian Leduc downgraded the Fire Danger Rating from Extreme to High. The total fire ban has been lifted and campfires are allowed for cooking, warmth, and recreation. Leduc says the move in the middle of a weekend is not normal practice, but the area Fire Chiefs feel it’s important to not lose the confidence in the community in their ability to control hazard ratings.
