A lack of rain has continued the total fire ban in West Parry Sound

The Fire Danger Rating in West Parry Sound remains at Extreme.  In his update this week, Regional Fire Coordinator Chief Brian Leduc says the continued lack of precipitation across the area as a whole dictates that the Fire Danger Rating will remain at Extreme through to July 4th.  Leduc explain what that means.

It also means that residential fireworks are also banned.  Leduc says when it comes to commercial fireworks, each individual municipality has their own say.

Town of Parry Sound Fire Chief Dave Thompson says at this time the Canada Day municipal fireworks display at the Town Docks will be going ahead.

Thompson says the Parry Sound Fire Department will be working with the Canada Day fireworks provider to develop a safety plan to ensure that the community is adequately protected during the fireworks display.
