Francis Pegahmagabow will be honoured in Parry Sound next week

A bronze statue of Francis Pegahmagabow will be unveiled next week.  The three-figure, life-sized bronze created by Sudbury sculptor Tyler Fauvelle will be erected beside the Stockey Centre on National Aboriginal Day next Tuesday.  One hundred years after Pegahmagabow was awarded his first Military Medal, his family and community will join First Nation, military and other dignitaries to celebrate the unveiling of the first monument erected in his honour.  A video about Pegahmagabow and military contributions made by Canada’s First People will accompany the statue for educational purposes.  Pegahmagabow’s medals from the Canadian War Museum will also be on display for the ceremony.  The ceremony will take place from 11:00am until 1:00pm with the unveiling of the statue outside and an informal reception inside.
