Nearly 15,000 books will be given out in Parry Sound and North Bay this week

Canadore College is set to help improve literacy by giving away thousands of books.  The West Parry Sound campus is once again teaming with First Book Canada for the Books on Wheels event.  The event has service organizations and schools register to pick up to 150 books to distribute for children to start or add to the own person libraries.  This year, the event will also take place in North Bay.  Canadore Students’ Council student government coordinator Kim Devine says if kids develop a love of reading at a young age, it encourages a passion for lifelong learning and Canadore is proud to be a part of that.  Executive director of First Book Canada Tom Best says it’s so wonderful to know over 10,000 brand new books will be distributed to students in need all across the region just before summer holidays begin.  Volunteers are working to organize the books in Parry Sound this afternoon with the event taking place on Thursday.  Anyone from a local service club or school interested in taking part, contact Laura at 705-746-9222.
