Traffic congestion at Parry Sound Public School may result in changes

Town is not willing to pay to fix congestion in front of Parry Sound Public School.  After the first full year of the school, the Near North District School Board has recognized some traffic challenges and is making changes on their property to help ease the congestion.  They also asked the town to pay for the widening of Beatty Street at the drop-off zone and a turnaround at the end of Beatty Street to also help with the congestion.  At Tuesday’s meeting, council agreed that the current design was the school board’s and they should be responsible for the full cost of any changes to improve their design.  Council also passed a direction for staff to look into the cost of extending Beatty Street out to Parry Sound Drive which is Director of Public Works Peter Brown’s preference and work with the school board to work out a compromise.
