Rezoning of the former William Beatty school has been approved

A plan to build affordable housing at the former William Beatty School is one step closer.  After weeks of public meetings and feedback, Parry Sound Non-Profit Housing worked with Town of Parry Sound Principle Planner Taylor Elgie to make some changes to the original proposal.  Parry Sound Non-Profit Housing Property Manager Howard Wesley says they addressed parking and other concerns from the public.

The rezoning application was approved by council at last night’s meeting.  Site plan approval is still needed before any construction begins and Town of Parry Sound Principle Planner informed council that a holding provision is in place.

The project will now allow for 55 affordable housing units and a two-storey 10 unit apartment building and add the Parry Sound Friendship Centre, One Kid’s Place, Early Years, and a Place of Assembly.
