The Town of Parry Sound has apologized to Lis McWalter

Lis McWalter has received an apology from the Town of Parry Sound.  The public apology was made this week, more than two years after council voted to dismiss McWalter as Chair of the Parry Sound Downtown Business Association.

A press release on April 8th stated “Council‘s role is to consider the well-being and interests of the Town and that ensuring accurate recordings of the decisions of an entity appointed by Council is vital to the interest of the Town.  Under the [Code of Conduct], Council is required to identify and resolve situations which involve a misuse of position and authority.”

The public apology says “The Media Release may have been interpreted to suggest misconduct on the part of Ms. McWalter.  There was no such misconduct.  The Town of Parry Sound thanks Ms. McWalter for her voluntary service on the Downtown Management Board, regrets any harm that may have been caused and apologizes to Lis McWalter.”

Both Mayor Jamie McGarvey and McWalter had no further comment.
