MTO offering tips for safe winter driving

With the dangerous weather the area is currently experiencing, the Ministry of Transportation is passing some tips to drivers to stay safe while on the roads.  Many snowplows and sanders will be on the roads this morning and drivers are reminded to share the road.  Officials say to not pass them and be patient to give them room, they will pull off once they are finished their routes.  Also, avoid crowding into one lane into on-coming traffic as this could result in crashes.  Officials say all-season tires are not winter tires and they begin to lose grip below plus 7 degrees.  Make sure you have the right tires for the right conditions.  They also say to plan your trip and use your best judgment.  They say if road conditions look dangerous, delaying your trip may be the best option.  If you’re driving and conditions are not safe the MTO says to pull over to the safest area and wait.  For all safety tips as well as the road conditions, head to the MTO’s website.
