Former Parry Sound resident recognized for contributions to public safety

The Technical Standards and Safety Authority has recognized a former Parry Sound resident.  At TSSA’s annual general meeting on Tuesday, they presented four individuals with the first safety awards for their contributions to public safety in Ontario.  John Gignac was recognized for founding the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation after losing four members of his family in a CO poisoning incident.  Through the foundation, he has helped Ontario pass a law to make carbon monoxide alarms mandatory in homes and has helped deliver thousands of CO detectors to municipalities across the province.  TSSA President and CEO Michael Beard  says all the recipients embody the spirit of partnership that keeps Ontarians safe and are an inspiration to us all.
